Blue & Black win second straight

May 17, 2010 – The road proved kind again to the Diamond State BBC, as they picked up their second consecutive win and second straight on the road in Glen Burnie, MD yesterday, downing the Excelsior BBC of Arundel, 16-11.

After the top of the second inning, the game appeared to be getting out of hand for the Blue and Black with EBBC staking an 8-1 lead.  However, the Diamond Staters mustered up whatever courage they had and tied up the score, plating 7 runs in the bottom of the second inning.  The rest of the match experienced both squads playing some excellent defense, but Diamond State’s experience allowed them to plate 8 more runs to Excelsior’s 3.

Dan ‘Mini’ Minutola pitched another excellent gem to collect his third win of the season.  Frank ‘Flying Dutchman’ Brevoort led the way at the plate with a 5-6 performance, which included a homerun, the first in DSBBC’s modern era.   ’Dutch’ clubbed a ball into the gap in right center field and used his fleet feet to score standing up.  Brevoort lived up to his nickname, causing general mayhem on the base paths for the adversary all day.

Diamond State’s record rose to 3-5 on the season.

The next matches take place on the Parade Ground at Fort DuPont in Delaware City next Saturday and Sunday, as the Diamond State BBC hosts the First State 19th Century Base Ball Festival.  The Blue and Black face the Waterbury Connors BBC on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.  On Sunday, they get a re-match with Excelsior at 10:00 a.m. and then meet the Fair Play BBC of Talbot County at 3:00 p.m.
