In the day’s first match, Diamond State tallied 8 in the first frame to take a lead they would not relinquish. Frank ‘The Flying Dutchman’ Breevort slugged his second round tripper of the season, leading the Blue and Black with a 5-7 performance at the plate. Shortstop Earl ‘Stones’ Benningfield and rightfielder Logan ‘El Lobo’ Medkeff also had fine performances, each with 4 hits in 6 appearances. Pitcher Dan ‘Mini’ Minutola, centerfielder Joe ‘Duece’ Minutola, firstbaseman Jeff ‘Swampy’ Kabacinski & catcher Greg ‘Memphis’ Boulden each added to the Diamond State offensive assault with 3 hits each.
With a three game winning streak on the line, the Delaware nine were overmatched in the second game by the Dauntless. Diamond State couldn’t get any offense generated against some fine fielding and expert hitting by the Havre de Grace club. The Diamond States were led at the plate by Mini and captain and catcher Brian ‘Cap’ Boulden, each with 2 hits. Both gentleman also performed well in the field. Cap threw out two would-be Dauntless base stealers in the second game. Mini hurled two complete games with his usual aplomb and made several key plays fielding his position.
Diamond State’s record goes to 6-7 on the season.
